not much until recently! however, we’ve been making some interesting connections and opportunities to be helpful are presenting themeselves.
Kenyan Power Knitting Project - last fall Lesley travelled to deepest Africa and served at a hospital in Kijabe. You’d think deepest Africa would be warm, but apparently the mountain nights are down right cold. If you knit and many of you do, please consider putting a little somethin’ somethin’ together for the care package we plan to send…
hats, sweaters, mitts, sox, blankets, cardigens and other such warmies.
There are approximately 40 beds in Bethany Kids (the paediatric wing) with children ranging in age – most with hyrdocephalus or spinabifida. If you plan to knit a sweater you may want to adjust the pattern to include buttons to enlarge the neck-opening (like on a baby’s sweater) so it can be easily put on (hydrocephalus causes an enlarged head).
Some wool has already been donated to the cause and can be picked up at next or feel free to use your own. Contact Lesley for more details.
La Tienda Co-op Supply Collection Coalition - La Tienda is a art co-op in the Dominican Republic. Rachel is a young women from Barrie who is very involved. She’s excited to know that next wants to help and has given the following list of things we can send:
Things we love receiving:
* beads (glass and wood, ceramic, bone or shell… we cringe at and have denounced plastic)
* stringing materials (hemp, string, fishing line, wool, tiger tail wire)
* anything jewelry related
* pretty cotton fabrics
* tools for working with wire
* tools and bits for dremmels
* sharpies (thin and thick)
-
Things the women always love receiving:
* sheet sets
* towels
* shoes for their families (running shoes especially)
* toothbrushes
* skirts
We’re looking for new and used items but please, no junk.

So good folks of next. 2 of many opportunities to be generous. You can drop off knitting and co-op supplies at the office anyday of the week or in the trunk on Sunday.
