Nativity1.jpgHere’s what’s going on in the month of December…

Eve Session – Dec 1 (Friday)
Women of next (& Rustle of course) don’t forget you are invited to an evening of good food, fun and more. A candlelight supper to be served at 7 p.m., and Brenda Melles will share her story. We may also get to carol singing around the wood stove! For more details and to RSVP, please call Anne Fisher at 613-353-3054.

Christmas Dinner – Dec 3rd (Sunday)
Come join us after church for a good ol’ fashion Christmas supper, complete with turkey, stuffin’, gravy; all the works. Don’t worry, this year we’ll have vegetarian turkey! All you have to bring is yourself and your appetite. Our faithful meal crew will serve dinner: Doug & Joyce Casement, and Doug & Deb Lovegrove. We are looking for volunteers to serve and/or clean up. Please let Pam know if you re able to help.

December Services – Dec 3, 10, 17, 24th & 31st
All December services will be Sunday mornings at our regular time – around 11am. There will be only one service on Christmas Eve and one on New Year’s Eve – both in the morning. There are no additional services planned at next.

Rustle
Rustle is starting a small group and working through the video series “God Will Make a Way”. Everyone is welcome to attend (nexters & rustlers). It will be Tuesday evenings at Rustle, contact Al at 676-1397 for more info.

Who’s doing what

Bonnie Loveday and Shannon Kearns are part of the wonderful cast in ‘Cinderella’, an original musical comedy extravaganza, done in the tradition of British holiday pantomime (for those of you unfamiliar with the term, it is not a mime, but a play with audience participation). It is a Meistersingers performance at the Octave Theatre, running from Nov 23 – Dec 2nd. Bring the whole family and enjoy this fun retelling of a classic story, while watching two of our very own showcase one of their many talents. Phone the Grand Theatre Box Office for tickets, 613-530-2050.

Cas Ward
co-wrote the play ‘Altogether Separate’ which ran at Theatre Five from Nov 23 – 25. While you may have missed this debut, keep your eyes open for her next play. This playwright is going places and you won’t want to miss the ride.

Sue Lyon will be selling her wonderful creations at the annual Potter’s Guild Christmas Sale, November 30th – December 3rd, at the Tett Centre, 370 King St. West. More info at www.kingstonpottersguild.com

David Lyon is teaching at the always thought provoking ‘Invisible College’ again. It is a 5-week course beginning January 15th. The theme this year is ‘Living Lightly: Rediscovering Sabbath in a 24/7 World’. For more info go to www.invisiblecollege.ca or pick up a brochure at the back of church.

Updating email addresses
If you know of anyone who is not currently receiving this newsletter, and wants to, please ask them to email the church and they will be added to the list.

Also, did you know that emails ending in ‘….@nextchurch.com’, come to the office (I receive multiple emails about the same thing). So, if you are trying to email Garry or Al and have their address ending in “…@nextchurch.com” it isn’t going to them, but to me. At this time, Garry’s email is garrydrew@gmail.com and Al’s is aldoseger@gmail.com. Please update your address books.

Kids art show

The kids art gallery was very well received by everyone! The open house went well, with a number of people from the community coming to see it. Comments received included “this is one of the best art shows next has shown”, and “I’m very impressed that the kids could create this quality of work”. Make sure to congratulate our kids, as they definitely were inspiring with their creations! Anyone wishing to purchase one of the photographs or fridge doors, please contact the office. The show will be up until the beginning of December.Money from the sale of the artwork continues to be collected and will be sent to La Tienda later in December. Ideas are already in the works for the next work of art from our kids. Wait till you see what they will be doing next!

Phone Book

A few late entries continue to trickle in for the phone book. If you haven’t got your information in yet, I’m willing to wait for you a little bit longer. For everyone else you won’t have to listen to me plead for your info any longer, then next time you hear about the phone books will (hopefully) be to pick up the completed book.

Babies
Ok what’s going on?! No one has told me of any new babies this month! What are we doing? Slowing down?
Ok, only joking, this is next. One couple that I haven’t mentioned are Sam and Tabitha Laitenen who are expecting in April, and to keep things interesting they are due on the same day as the Erbs. Hummm… do I see a race coming up?

Due dates are:

Jordin & Thomas Peters – December 10
Josh & Corky Lyon - February
Kevin & Kathy Alstrup – March
Rachel & Jason Erb – April 20
Sam & Tabitha Laitenen –April 20
Mark & Brenda Windatt – July 7

Gathering Place
Many of you will recall the wonderful group from the Salvation Army that used our gym over the summer to put on the Gathering Place, a drop in center for folks to get out of the heat, have something to eat, relax and enjoy. Well, they may have left our building and gone back to their own, but they are still in our hearts, and are in need.
As you can imagine over the winter months their needs increase, especially for food. If anyone wants to make an extra large dinner or bake some bread for, they would be very grateful. This is a very practical way we can help the people in our community. Drop off is at the Salvation Church, 326 Alfred Street (door is at the back of the building). Best times for drop-off: Tuesday & Saturday 3-8pm and Sunday 3-6pm.
