The flyer claims that the event is put together by the “rock, paper and scissors” society. That alone made me question what type of invitation I received. Upon digging deeper, I uncovered that this seemingly harmless block party was actually being promoted by some unknown, flimsy, newage christian-like church. This leads me to question whether or not next church is some “cult” and based on the evidence it could very well be the case.
I don’t doubt the good nature of your event and I would give you the benefit of the doubt of being good people with positive influence, unfortunately, claiming that the bible is your ultimate guide to live by and should be followed to the letter (or should I say some interpretation of it) because it was “written” by some higher power is just plain absurd. Religion is for the absent minded, people that need some thing to believe in. In my agnostic view, you guys would do a better job if you focused on helping people believe in themselves and their communities, rather than interpreting the bible, or trying to find guidance from it, or tying life events to biblical stories, etc. etc.
Anyhow, I suggest you make it clear in future advertisements that you are in fact a church.
Hi EdC. Thanks for posting.
It is true that Next Church is a church. We are sorry that our name is misleading.
You are entitled to your options. I really feel what you have said is not characteristic of Next Church.
We would love for you to come hang-out with us on Saturday. This block party is a party and for the community. No strings attached, no flyers to come to our services, no free Bibles. Hope to see you there.
For the record this event is not put on by the RPS Society, just endorsed. The winner will have their ticket paid for to compete in the international championships in Toronto of this year (November).
I suspect the comment about your kids was a joke. I sure hope so.
PS: EdC, would love to chat with you through e-mail if this forum is too public. My e-mail address is brandon@nextchurch.com.
